What is Ment-Africa?
Ment-Africa is a new initiative launched in March 2018 during the Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP) 2018 by 9 emergent leaders from 7 African countries: South Africa, Tanzania, Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana.
The main vision of Ment-Africa is to foster connections between young and early career scientists with well-established and accomplished scientists from all over Africa. The ultimate goal of Ment-Africa is to enhance the smooth transition of young African scientists into full time faculty positions and also as research group leaders. Through this initiative, weintendtohavementeesgrow in their academic fields and to establish mentors as leaders in their fields of expertise.
The main objectives are :
1. To create a platform with a pool of renowned and established scientists and research group leaders for easy networking.
2. To provide a platform for exchange of information on opportunities for mentees on grant applications, job vacancies, trainings and conferences.
3. To provide a support platform for mentees on skill development, career planning and problem solving options.
4. To provide orientation for early career scientists and enable them to embrace and identify innovative ways of overcoming challenges in their fields.
The full name of the Platform is: “ Mentoring Africa (Ment-Africa)”.
